Spain Wins FIFA 2023 Women's World Cup

Spain defeated England 1-0 in the final of the Women's World Cup on Sunday at Stadium Australia in Sydney on August 20, 2023. Thousands of fan milled around Stadium Australia in Sydney hours before kick-off on Sunday, with troupes of drummers and stilt walkers creating a festival atmosphere. Spanish team holding the lead since the 29th minute, courtesy of 23-year-old Olga Carmona's left-footed effort. Olga's strike handed La Roja their first World Cup title against the Lionesses of England. 

Both England and Spain were both making their first appearance at a Women's World Cup final and the both countries reached the Women's World Cup final for the first time while the World Cup host countries, Australia and New Zealand, were eliminated in the semi-final and group stages respectively. The ninth edition of the global showpiece event was the first to be held in the southern hemisphere. The last Women's World Cup in France four years ago attracted more than 1.1 million fans to 52 matches with an average crowd of 21,756.
