Garlic grows in
many parts of the world and is a popular ingredient in cooking due to it strong
smell and delicious taste.
However, throughout ancient history, the
main use of garlic was for it health and medicinal properties. With it
anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory benefits, garlic is the Swiss
army knife of garden remedies that people have been using for health and
healing for more than 500 years.
Scientists now know that most of its health
benefits are caused by sulfur compounds formed when a garlic clove is chopped, crushed
or chewed.
It’s not surprising that research has shown
that garlic help prevent and reduce the severity of common illnesses like cold
and flu because it has the potential to ward off cough and cold infections and
boost the function of the immune system. The benefits come from both raw and
cooked garlic.

The Human studies have found garlic
supplements to have a significant impact on reducing high blood pressure, heart
attacks, strokes as they’re the world’s biggest killers. The amount needed is
equivalent to about four cloves of garlic per day and the supplement dose must
be fairly high to have the desired effects.
Due to the high amount of antioxidants, garlic
protect the body against lung, prostrate, bladder, stomach and liver cancer. The
antibacterial action of garlic prevents peptic ulcers as it eliminates the
infection in the body.

Furthermore, garlic
is used today for the prevention of sore and inflamed joints or muscles when
the it oil is rubbed because it works as an anti-inflammatory. The arthritis
foundation even recommends it. Also, the antibacterial properties in fresh
garlic can kill the bacteria that lead to food poisoning.
Garlic benefits are plenty but don’t add too
much, as tempting as it may be because it may cause side effects like bad
breath, acid reflux, digestive issues, and an increased risk of bleeding.
Therefore, it’s best to enjoy this delicious
spice in moderation and reduce your intake if you start to experience any
adverse effects.
