However, it is advisable to go through your notes everyday which makes it easy for your brain to digest what you have been be taught in class. Studying what you have been taught can be a lot for the average students. Studying takes more than just cramming up lectures notes.

Love or hate it, examination will always come. “The fear of examination is the beginning of academic work”. Whether you are a junior/secondary or a degree student, I believe this guides will work for all.

1.      SET ASIDE TIME TO STUDY: Setting time to study is one of the best ways to pass your examination. And it is best you make a timetable on which subject/course to read on particular days. According to scientists, the best time to study is between 10:00am and 12:00pm and between 4:00pm and 10:00pm at night. However, it is very important to know if you read better in the morning or late at night and plan yourself accordingly.

2.       READ AT THE END OF EVERY CLASS: Make sure you read at the end of every lecture. Skimming and scanning a day’s lecture note retains every information and make it sticks to your brain. It is very important to understand your note like the back of your palm and memorize every point. Basically, understanding is one thing and remembering is another thing. Therefore, you must keep on reading until you understand.

3.      START READING ON TIME: Don’t ever wait to see examination time table before you start reading. If you wait for longer, you may find it very difficult to catch up and you may end up struggling with that course or subject in the examination.

4.      MEMORISE, UNDERSTAND AND DON’T CRAM: Cramming what you don’t understand is very dangerous. It can prove fatal in your examination. Know that, understanding, memorizing and cramming are different thing. Most importantly, after reading, make effort to memorize what you read by closing your book, pick a piece of sheet and try to write down what you have read. Don’t stop until you recollect the major points of what you read.

5.      STICK TO YOU STUDY TIME: Every student have a peculiar time that is convenience for them to study. As a student, it is important to know your preferred time of study and stick to it. Basically, most students prefer reading in the morning while others at night. Therefore, know the one that is best suitable and convenience for you and stick to it.

Do NOT OVER STRESS YOURSELF: When reading for examination, do not over stress yourself. Your brain needs to be relaxed to retain information. When studying a bulky material, let there be an interval of break at least 15minutes break. After the 15minutes break, do not rush to finish up the material. No! It is best you take your time and try to recall what you have read before the break. Advisably, try writing down everything without looking at your book.

7.      DO NO READ TOO MANY COURSES/SUBJECT AT A TIME: Try all your possible best to read your courses/subjects one after the other. Avoid reading all your courses at the same time and study gradually. I would advise you study one or two courses daily.

8.      EAT WELL AND SLEEP WELL: You passing your examination successfully deal with your health and well-being. Many students fall sick during exams as a result of exam tension. Maintain your health and take good care of yourself as you must be alive and healthy to study and write a successful examination.
